Evan Marker Stonework is an Adelaide-based specialist stonemasonry business led by Evan Marker.
Evan is a locally trained and fully qualified stonemason, having gained his Certificate III in Stonemasonry through Flexible Construction Training and Assessment (FCTA) in Adelaide. His formal training provided a broad understanding of the craft and complemented the practical knowledge he has developed through more than 25 years working in the stone construction industry.
Over the years Evan has continued to develop his skills and interests in stone. He has undertaken further training in Heritage Skills, travelled through the UK researching traditional stonework and the stone industry, and developed specialist skills in hand-carving stone inscriptions through a Churchill Fellowship.
His work with stone also extends beyond construction. Evan has undertaken mentoring in stone sculpture with renowned Adelaide sculptor Silvio Apponyi and has presented workshops in limestone carving and letter carving in stone at the Adelaide Central School of Art and other locations around Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills.
A Local Stonemason
Evan is very much a local product. Born and raised in the Adelaide Hills, he comes from a family with generations of farming history in the Hills. For more than 25 years he has worked with builders, architects, landscapers and private clients throughout Adelaide and the Adelaide Hills. Along the way he has developed not only a broad range of practical skills, but also an appreciation of the importance of listening to clients and understanding what they are trying to achieve.
Evan enjoys working closely with people and believes good communication is an important part of good craftsmanship. Whether working with a builder or architect on a detailed project, restoring an older building, or helping a private client bring an idea to life, he takes the time to discuss the work, explain the options and find a practical way forward.
What Evan enjoys most about stonemasonry is the combination of practical problem-solving, working with natural materials and seeing a project gradually take shape. For him, stonemasonry is more than simply building with stone. It is a craft, and one that he continues to enjoy learning, refining and passing on.
